Dr. Michael Brody – Lecturer
Dr. Michael Brody, who is currently teaching a course on sustainable development at the International Agriculture University, is an environmental scientist, worked for more than 20 years at the US Environmental Protection Agency. At the EPA he worked in the fields of environmental risk assessment and policy, environmental strategic planning, and futures. At the EPA he carried out technical assistance projects in 17 countries; with emphasis on risk assessment as a policy tool in Eastern Europe, Ukraine, and Russia; and climate change in East Africa. In 2012 Dr. Brody began teaching in the Department of Environmental Science at the American University in Washington DC. He has continued his international projects and teaching in Russia and in Central Asia. He was a Fulbright Teaching Scholar at the National University of Uzbekistan in Tashkent during the Fall semester of 2017. Beginning in 2011 he has been a visiting professor at the Kazakh National Medical University and the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University, both in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He was also a part-time Associate Professor at the American University of Central Asia in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic where he taught an online course in global climate change. He was also at AUCA for the summer of 2018, on a grant from the National Council for Eurasian and East European Research. During that period, he served on the Science Committee for the International Conference “Conservation Asia 2018” held at AUCA. He was a Fulbright Short-term specialist at the University of Tyumen in Western Siberia, Russia for the summer of 2019. He was recently a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Sustainable Development Studies at the Russian Presidential Academy of the National Economy and Public Administration. In 2021 he had a small grant from the American Councils for International Education for a partnership with Fergana State University in Uzbekistan. He has periodically been a consultant to the World Bank. Dr. Brody received his PhD from the University of Texas in 1980.
